STEAD COMPLETES LIONS

The Rapid Solicitors Leicester Lions boss David Hemsley finalised his team today with the signing of Simon Stead on loan from his parent club the Swindon Robins.

The triple former British Under-21 Champion was a major signing for Sheffield last year and doubled-up in the Elite League with the King’s Lynn Stars but his season ended prematurely when he broke a leg in June whilst out practising.

“Up to the time of his accident Simon was delivering a string of exceptionally high scores and in fact had the fifth best average in the whole of the Premier League. Both clubs felt his absence and Simon was running into good form as well for King’s Lynn. He is a seasoned Elite League rider with a proven record so we know what he is capable of and I am pleased that Simon has agreed to ride for the club” commented David Hemsley.

In his one and only appearance at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium in March, Stead ended the night as top scorer for Sheffield with thirteen points and his performance inspired his teammates to collect a bonus consolation match point in the League Cup fixture against the Lions.

The addition of Yorkshire born Stead means that with Tom Perry and Max Clegg, already confirmed starters, Leicester will track three British riders for the first time in their short history.
